Simple Exam Preparation Guide

1. NUMBERS & BASIC OPERATIONS

Key Concepts

- Natural numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4…
- Integers: ..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3...
- Rational numbers: fractions like 1/2, 3/4
- Irrational numbers: π, √2

BODMAS Rule

Order of operations:

1. Brackets
2. Orders (powers, roots)
3. Division
4. Multiplication
5. Addition
6. Subtraction

Example:
2 + 3 × 4 = 2 + 12 = 14

2. ALGEBRA

Simplifying Expressions

Combine like terms:
3x + 2x = 5x

Expanding Brackets

a(b + c) = ab + ac

Example:
2(x + 3) = 2x + 6

Factorisation

Reverse of expansion:
x + 5x = x(1 + 5) = 6x

3. LINEAR EQUATIONS

Solve for x:
2x + 4 = 10

Steps:
2x = 10 - 4
2x = 6
x = 3

4. GRAPHS

Gradient (Slope)

m = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)

Important points:

- Positive slope → rising line
- Negative slope → falling line
- Straight line equation: y = mx + c

5. GEOMETRY

Angle Rules

- Angles in a triangle = 180°
- Angles on a straight line = 180°
- Vertically opposite angles are equal

Mean

Mean = Sum of values ÷ Number of values
